New energy source developed

I read this article with interest. Hopefully this will lead to more research and development in this area.

As the world discovers new ways to meet its growing energy needs, energy generated from Sun, which is better known as solar power and energy generated from wind called the wind power are being considered as a means of generating power. Though these two sources of energy have attracted the scientists for a very long time, they are not able to decide, which of the two is a better source to generate power. Now scientists are looking at a third option as well. Scientists at Washington State University have now combined solar power and wind power to produce enormous energy called the solar wind power, which will satisfy all energy requirements of human kind.

France invests 10 Billion Euros in first offshore wind project

France will invest ten billion euros in developing its first offshore wind project. Currently, in France, nuclear power plants generate 80% of the state’s electricity. The aim is to build 600 offshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 3,000 megawatts, said French President Nicolas Sarkozy. He did not specify where these plants will be located.

The project will be one of the largest in the world, with a production capacity equivalent to that of three small nuclear reactors and will also create about 10,000 green jobs, said Sarkozy.

France intends to invest 20 billion euros by the end of 2020, for the construction of wind plants with a total production capacity of 25,000 megawatts to cover 23% of the demand for renewable resources.

Right now, wind power accounts for only around 2% of the total French production compared to 7% in Germany. Britain has about 1,700 wind turbines under construction. London aims to achieve a production capacity of 32,000 megawatts of wind power by 2020, enough to meet 25% of the country’s requirement.
